The Jean Arnot Award
This award was established in 1994 to honour the life and commitment of Jean Arnot, a past National President and pioneer of the fight for equal pay in Australia.

About this Award
In 1994 BPW Australia honoured the life and commitment of Miss Jean Arnot M.B.E., F.L.A.A., past National President and pioneer of the fight for equal pay in Australia, by establishing an award in her name. The award seeks to recognise outstanding commitment and service to women through BPW.
Jean Arnot was a BPW member and librarian in the 1950s. Her father had been wounded in WW11 and as a result Jean had to support her family. She was highly qualified and held a senior position. Junior to her in the Library was a less qualified young man who also had a (young) family to support. Despite her seniority and higher qualifications she was paid less than the man. When she asked the reason for the disparity she was told that the man had a family to support so should be paid more.
This started Jean’s campaign for equal pay for all women. Although average pay still isn’t yet “equal” and BPW continues to advocate for pay equity, we can all appreciate the impact of this inspiring woman’s determination on the working lives of us all.

The Pat Harrison Award
Initiated by Past International President, Pat Harrison, this award recognises excellence in leadership and commitment from a Club President.

About this Award
BPW Australia established this award at the urging of Dr Pat Harrison, as she wished to celebrate the essential role of Club President, and provide inspiration for other Club Presidents. Initially judged by Dr Harrison, BPW Australia has invited a panel of Past Winners and close colleagues of Pat to continue her lead.
Dr Pat Harrison was an inspirational leader for BPW International, in her chosen profession as a medical doctor, and in local government. Winners of this award show the best characteristics of leadership in the Club environment, in their local communities and in BPW more broadly. Dr Harrison was determined to recognise these women, as she believed that the strength of BPW lives in the strength of our clubs, and the strength of a club grows with the strength and skills of a President.
